I just recently wrote about WSU’s enrollment being up but now in more recent news WSU is expecting enrollment to drop 4% – 6% because of budget cuts, this state deficit is going to hurt in more ways then one. Not only is enrollment expected to drop, but Governor Chris Gregiore has proposed all public four-year universities help recover from the statewide deficit by raising tuition 7 percent which would add up to about $28 million. The future may look a little unstable for WSU but they will be doing their best to preserve money for instruction, which may come in the form of cutting programs at extension offices or the Small Business Training Center. WSU will be working hard to save jobs because they are the biggest employer in Pullman and a significant amount of layoffs would have a devastating result.

Agreed! Fortunately, the Tri Cities is not being hit as hard as many other college towns.
