The WSU board of regents unanimously approved a retirement plan for faculty over 55. This voluntary early retirement plan allows faculty who have been members of the early retirement plan for at least 10 years to retire early. Those who choose to apply for early retirement would receive $18,000 that would go into a tax-exempt medical expense plan. Branch campuses are unsure how this plan would affect them until applications are admitted and they can see how many take early retirement. Those who choose to apply for early retirement must apply between March 1 and May 31; retirement would be effective by July 1, the beginning of the new fiscal year.
